Despite the simple setting, Moffat carves thoughtful human portraits of everyday characters including a Vicar and a maths tutor. There is a lot of crime-solving as well, giving you a good mental stimulus. It is not exactly Sherlock-level detective work but plain and simple observations done tastefully. If you have seen the first season, you must be wondering if it can return for another one. Jefferson did have another couple of weeks before his execution. Enough space for at least a couple more cases! Here is what we know about a possible season 2 for BBC’s Inside Man:
What is Inside Man Season 1 about?
Season 1 is a gripping mix of compelling cross-border action and deeper questions about the philosophy of criminology. Well, cross-border might be a bit extravagantly implied but the action does shift between a US federal prison and a small town in the UK. A local Vicar, Harry, is caught in a lie by his son’s math tutor, Janice, when she finds child porn on a flash drive. That drive actually belongs to Edgar, the verger in the church, who gives it to Harry to prevent her mother from finding it. Beth, a journalist, has a chance meeting with Janice in the metro and receives a distress message from Janice before she goes missing. She contacts Professor Grieff, an inmate on death row, to solve the crime. The compelling questions up for debate in the Vicar’s household and a clever maths tutor planning to get out add all the action to the first season. We have ongoing coverage of Inside Man across the site, including recaps for every episode. You can check those out HERE!
Has Inside Man been renewed for season 2?
Steven Moffat has outrightly declared that the story for season 1 has ended. In an exclusive with RadioTimes, he mentions how, for a season 2 to happen, he will have to think up something new with similar themes. He does not reveal much if the same characters would return in that case, but said this to complete his answer: So no, the show hasn’t been renewed for season 2. It has not been cancelled either, so go on and watch the series to make it happen!
What we know about season 2 so far:
The mid-credits scene was the twist we all expected Moffat to throw at us right at the very end. The Brits are smart with these sort of revelations, building up anticipation and leaving us high and dry. In the scene, Grieff was indeed visited before all of this mayhem happened by Janice herself. She confirmed her morally ambiguous core by asking to “murder her husband” because “he deserves to die”. Well, well, well, how the turn tables… Grieff of course wanted to weigh the request against his moral worth fortitude. But what came of it will only be revealed in season 2, if it happens. That will make for a compelling storyline and indeed more deserved screen time for Dolly, who revelled in her new villainous avatar. Of, course, she was a damsel in distress trying to avoid murder but when have we seen things for what they are? She and Tucci will return to their roles. It can actually turn into a detective-like thing for Grieff’s character, where he tries to redeem himself and maybe we get more information on his background. I mean, what if his situation is like that of Harry? Maybe he was protecting someone? All those questions would be delightful in a season helmed and crafted by Moffat, but maybe no one else. We’ll be sure to update this section with more information as it becomes available! Would you like to see Inside Man return for season 2? What’s been your favourite part of this season?
