What is The Serpent Queen Season 1 about?
The Serpent Queen is the latest historical drama to hit our screens; a darkly satirical look at Catherine de’ Medici, who marries into the French court as an orphaned teenager expected to bring in a fortune in dowry and produce heirs. Unfortunately, this dream is shattered when Catherine discovers that her husband is actually in love with an older woman and she cannot conceive children. Catherine attempts to keep her marriage going – and rule France for thirty years.
Has The Serpent Queen been renewed for season 2?
At the time of writing, Starz have renewed The Serpent Queen for season 2. The network do have a pretty good track record with renewing their historical dramas and given the success of The White Queen and The Spanish Princess (both of which receiving second season orders), it’s perhaps unsurprising to find this one renewed. The ratings for this show have been much higher than that of Becoming Elizabeth, which was recently announced to have been cancelled. With all this in mind, we’re happy to report that this has definitely been renewed.
What we know about season 2 so far:
Barely anything is known about season 2 at this point, given Starz have only just green-lit a sequel. The ending certainly opens this up to a more ambiguous and interesting second season. Expect more fourth-wall breaking, drama, political scheming and shades of romance throughout. In terms of a release, it should drop around September-October time in 2023.
