The Escape
Episode 6 of What We Do In The Shadows Season 3 begins with a big problem. The Sire has escaped from his room, partly thanks to Nadja forgetting to give Nandor the message that he needs to be fed. Woopsie! The big problem with this comes from what’s written in vampiric lore. Now, it’s said that if the vampire that turned you into one dies then you will subsequently pass away. Given the seriousness of this, Nandor calls the vampire community together to tell them what’s happening. Only, Nandor makes things a lot worse as he panics all the anchors. Meanwhile, Laszlo, Colin Robinson and Guillermo head out to the garden to try and find the Baron. They’re not sure if he’s really dead and soon get their answer. It turns out he’s actually still alive. Given Guillermo was the one who originally opened the door and burnt him to a crisp, the fact that he’s still alive reaffirms the idea that if the Sire dies then so too does everyone. Guillermo decides to step up and catch the Sire, given he’s now a prolific vampire hunter. He cleverly manages to organize everyone into a big group, gaining crucial intel needed to go after him. This comes in the form of The Guide and Nadja heading atop a building where they talk to The Watchers, which happen to be gossipy gargoyles. Meanwhile, Guillermo gathers the troops together as they follow a trail of vampire urine south to an abandoned shop. As they all corner the creature and prepare to strike, it’s suddenly revealed that the Baron can actually understand the Sire’s ancient language. It turns out he just wants to be let free and be in peace. Guillermo, sensing an opportunity, grabs the Baron and decides to use him to calm the Sire down. The group come to an understanding after all, with the Baron, Hellhound and Sire together sharing an abode in the countryside. And for food? Well, they’ve set up the place as an Airbnb with a plentiful supply of fresh meat. Bonus!
The Episode Review
What We Do In The Shadows returns with one of its best episodes of the season, bringing back some old faces and progressing each of the characters in a meaningful way. Seeing how far Guillermo has come is really satisfying to watch and he’s undoubtedly really grown into his role as bodyguard this year. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if we find he’s the one to take over the Vampire Council in the end. Nadja and Nandor continue to bicker around who’s taking control too, and it’s the perfect opportunity for Guillermo to swoop in and direct traffic. Seeing him do this so effortlessly is a great step forward for his character and it’ll be interesting to see what the rest of the season has in store for him. Either way, this has been another great episode and sets things up nicely for the rest of the show.
