We won’t spoil the movie and its ending in case you haven’t seen it yet, but if you’re wondering whether or not there could be a fifth Thor movie, here’s what we know.
Has Thor 5 been announced?
At the time of writing, Thor 5 hasn’t been officially announced. However, at the end of his most recent adventure, the words ‘Thor will return’ popped up at the end of the credits. While this seems to suggest another solo outing for the Asgardian hero, it might be that his return will be in the form of another team-up adventure instead. He could make an appearance in the next Guardians Of The Galaxy movie or there could be another Avengers-like pic where he joins forces with the Hulk, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, et al. We can only speculate but whatever the case, Chris Hemsworth is certainly interested in returning for another movie. Speaking to Deadline, the actor said “I’ll do it until someone says get off the stage. I love it.” Taika Waititi, the director of Thor: Ragnarok and the most recent Thor entry is also interested in another movie, provided Chris agrees to reprise his role. As quoted in an article at Forbes, he said: A road trip movie featuring Thor would be an entertaining watch but we imagine fans would be a little bit upset if there was no action at all. Waititi isn’t being overly serious about this (we assume) but if the quirky director is to return, the next movie could be even more offbeat than the recent Thor: Love and Thunder, which sometimes played more like a romantic comedy than a traditional Marvel movie.
When could Thor 5 be released?
It’s hard to say at this point but it won’t be until 2024 at the earliest. There are several other movies within the MCU planned for release before then, including Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (November 2022), Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania (February 2023), and Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 (May 2023). A new Captain America movie is also in the pipeline (with Sam Wilson as the new Cap), as well as a new Blade movie and a second go-round for Captain Marvel. We can expect to hear more about these movies and a potential fifth Thor movie at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con which takes place at the end of July.
What could Thor 5 be about?
Without giving away a major spoiler, Thor is teamed up with a new companion at the end of Thor: Love And Thunder. This pairing will come as no surprise to anybody who has read the comic books that inspired the movie and if you do know of the twosome’s adventures together, it could be assumed that Thor 5 will be centred around these. If Waititi has anything to do with it, we could even see them go on a road trip but we imagine they will do far more than travel the country in an RV! It is also likely that Thor 5 will feature the new antagonist that popped up during one of the post-credit scenes. Again, we aren’t going to reveal who but we will tell you that Zeus (Russell Crowe) called on somebody to aid him in his vendetta against Thor. Of course, this is assuming a fifth movie is given the green light. If it is, we assume Thor 5 will continue on from the most recent entry but until we know for sure, all we can do is speculate.
